I have been a member of the USDAW trade union since 2001, I'm a shop steward, Health and Safety rep, Union Learning Rep, branch chairman and I'm an USDAW Divisional Councillor in the Midlands division - Elected in 2015. On Wednesday 24th June 2015 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th May 2016. On Wednesday 31st May 2017 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th April 2018. I will be using this website to keep you informed of what I will be doing as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors. I will try to update this website with information about meetings attended, courses attended, conferences attended and any other duties I do as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors in the Midlands. I will also try to add photos from events that I attend and I will try to post news that members of USDAW might find useful.

USDAW DIVISIONAL COUNCIL MEETING OCTOBER 2018

Wednesday 31st October 2018 I attended the Divisional Council meeting at the Usdaw Redditch office.

We read through the EC minutes.

We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted.

Central office circulars and press releases
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted. 


Federation reports

East Midlands
A report was given by Jackie Hendry. 
The federation weekend covered domestic abuse and was a very emotional subject. 
A raffle raised £263 for a domestic abuse charity. 

West Midlands
A report was given by Michelle Whitehead. 
The federation school covered USDAWS Legal plus. 
ROWLEY DICKINSON were in attendance.

We received the Deputy Divisional officers report and Divisional officers report from Gavin Dadley. 

Membership 438,354 nationally and 57,822 divisional.
 
Stand down recruitment - 2,404 new members recruited. 
194 reps done stand down so far.

(1) Divisional Conference November 24th / 25th will take place at the Hilton hotel Warwick. 

(2) TUC Midlands rally on the eve of the Conservative party conference went well. 

(3) 19th October wear red to work day - part of show racism the red card campaign. An event was held at Tesco West Bromwich and was well received. 

(4) Respect for Shop workers campaign 12th - 18th November.

TUC MIDLANDS REGIONAL COUNCIL
The TUC Midlands Regional council meet twice a year and USDAW is entitled to send four delegates. 

After a brief discussion which asked for expressions of interest followed by a vote the following will be the USDAW TUC Midlands Regional Council Delegation.

USDAW ORGANISING AWARDS 2018
The divisional council members had received a copy of all nominations a few weeks ago and we had been looking through them in our own way to decide on who we thought deserved to win the award for each category. 

We all gave our choices and these were counted up to reveal the winners of each award. 

Due to the winners needing to be notified in writing the winners will only be announced on this blog after next months meeting.

USDAW DIVISIONAL COUNCIL MEETING June 2018

Wednesday 27th June 2018 I attended the Divisional Council meeting at the Usdaw Redditch office.

Apologies were received from:

Jon Mcewan started the meeting as acting chairman due to the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman and Federatiin Observers being ejected at this meeting. 

Election of DC Chairman
Two people put themselves forward for the position of Chairman. 
Due to no seconder for one candidate no voting was required to fill the position. 

Jackie Hendry was elected as Chairman and took over the meeting.

Election of DC Vice Chairman
Two people put themselves forward for the position of Chairman. 

A vote took place and Jon Mcewan was elected as Vice Chairman.

Election of Federation observers
West Midlands - 
Michelle whitehead was elected as the observer.

East Midlands - 
Jackie Hendry was elected as the observer.

USDAW DIVISIONAL COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2018

The results of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council election has been revealed. 

I was re-elected on to the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council and I would like to thank all branches and reps who supported and voted for me. 
I look forward to continuing to represent you all for a further three years. 
It has and always will be an honour to serve on the Midlands Divisional Council. 

I would like to thank all candidates who stood for election. You all did well and all kept a clean election campaign. 

Congratulations to all who were elected/re-elected. 
I look forward to working with you all. 

Commiserations to those candidates who were not re-elected. 
I’m sorry that we won’t be working together in the Divisional Council but I hope you stand again in the future and that you continue to attend Federstiin schools, ADM and the two Midlands Divisional Conferences. 

It’s been a pleasure to work with you both for the last three years.

The stage and seating at ADM no change from previous meetings. Visitors will be seated in the centre of the horseshoe arena and will require stewards to clear the area for fringe meetings.

24/25 March - held at the St. John’s hotel. 
Covered ADM - Behind the scenes. 
Using the ADM agenda of 2017 looked at the propositions and how they were written. 
23 delegates attended with a good mix of new and old faces. 

Divisional officers report

Membership 431,169 nationally and 57,126 divisional.

(1) March Divisional Conference - a total of £410 was raised in the collection. 

The venue was very well received by all delegates. Good service received by the hotel.
Good choice of food. 

Speakers were very good and special mention to Steve Mitchell who made what could of been a very boring subject into a fun interactive session. 

Jeff Broome - USDAW President was in attendance on Saturday and made his final speech at a Midlands Division event. 

Jeff received a standing ovation from the delegates and officials. 

(2) Divisional Council Meeting - April. 
We have to look at voting and info for the following events. 
Summer school 1 and 2. 
LGBT Get Together. 
Pension Conference. 
ADM Stewarding. 

(3) TUC March in London 12th May 2018.

Academy 2 2018  
5 reps have been working on Academy 2 and have attended there first training session.

Academy 1 2018  
11 reps have been offered a place on Academy 1 this year. 
Theses will be starting in May. 

USDAW Warehousing and Dustribution Conference
6 nominees and 2 reserves required. 

These will be announced once paperwork for April’s Divisional Council Meeting arrives. 

USDAW Food Manufacturing Conference
6 nominees and 2 reserves required.
