I have been a member of the USDAW trade union since 2001, I'm a shop steward, Health and Safety rep, Union Learning Rep, branch chairman and I'm an USDAW Divisional Councillor in the Midlands division - Elected in 2015. On Wednesday 24th June 2015 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th May 2016. On Wednesday 31st May 2017 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th April 2018. I will be using this website to keep you informed of what I will be doing as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors. I will try to update this website with information about meetings attended, courses attended, conferences attended and any other duties I do as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors in the Midlands. I will also try to add photos from events that I attend and I will try to post news that members of USDAW might find useful.

USDAW DIVISIONAL COUNCIL MEETING NUMBER 32

Wednesday 28th March 2018 I attended Divisional Council meeting number 32 at the Usdaw Redditch office.

Apologies were received from:
Simon Eggleton - Work.
Maureen Bowen - Personal.
Jenny Chilton - Union Duties. 
Paul White - Illness. 

Minutes from the previous DC meeting
We then read the minutes from the previous DC meeting. These were accepted. 

Minutes of the recent EC meeting
We read through the EC minutes.

The stage and seating at ADM no change from previous meetings. Visitors will be seated in the centre of the horseshoe arena and will require stewards to clear the area for fringe meetings.

Minutes from other Divisional Councils
We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted.

Central office circulars and press releases
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted. 


Federation reports

East Midlands
Federation taking place 7/8 April. 

West Midlands
24/25 March - held at the St. John’s hotel. 
Covered ADM - Behind the scenes. 
Using the ADM agenda of 2017 looked at the propositions and how they were written. 
23 delegates attended with a good mix of new and old faces. 

Divisional officers report
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report and Divisional officers report from Gareth Davies and Gavin Dadley.

Membership 431,169 nationally and 57,126 divisional.
 
Stand down recruitment - 885 new members recruited. 
122 reps done stand down so far. 
3,608 hours of stand down done so far out of a target of 12,000. 

(1) March Divisional Conference - a total of £410 was raised in the collection. 

The venue was very well received by all delegates. Good service received by the hotel.
Good choice of food. 

Speakers were very good and special mention to Steve Mitchell who made what could of been a very boring subject into a fun interactive session. 

Jeff Broome - USDAW President was in attendance on Saturday and made his final speech at a Midlands Division event. 

Jeff received a standing ovation from the delegates and officials. 

(2) Divisional Council Meeting - April. 
We have to look at voting and info for the following events. 
Summer school 1 and 2. 
LGBT Get Together. 
Pension Conference. 
ADM Stewarding. 

(3) TUC March in London 12th May 2018. 

The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.

Academy 2 2018  
5 reps have been working on Academy 2 and have attended there first training session.

Academy 1 2018  
11 reps have been offered a place on Academy 1 this year. 
Theses will be starting in May. 

USDAW Warehousing and Dustribution Conference
6 nominees and 2 reserves required. 

These will be announced once paperwork for April’s Divisional Council Meeting arrives. 

USDAW Food Manufacturing Conference
6 nominees and 2 reserves required.

These will be announced once paperwork for April’s Divisional Council Meeting arrives. 

Any Other Business
We then moved on to any other business.

The next USDAW Midlands Divisional Council Meeting will be on Wednesday 18th April 2018. 

The meeting was then closed
