I have been a member of the USDAW trade union since 2001, I'm a shop steward, Health and Safety rep, Union Learning Rep, branch chairman and I'm an USDAW Divisional Councillor in the Midlands division - Elected in 2015. On Wednesday 24th June 2015 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th May 2016. On Wednesday 31st May 2017 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th April 2018. I will be using this website to keep you informed of what I will be doing as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors. I will try to update this website with information about meetings attended, courses attended, conferences attended and any other duties I do as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors in the Midlands. I will also try to add photos from events that I attend and I will try to post news that members of USDAW might find useful.

Divisional Council Meeting Number 28

Wednesday 25th October 2017 I attended Divisional Council meeting number 28 at the USDAW Redditch office.

Minutes from the previous DC meeting
We then read the minutes from the previous DC meeting. These were accepted. 

Minutes of the recent EC meeting
We read through the EC minutes.

Minutes from other Divisional Councils
We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted.

Central office circulars and press releases
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted. 


Federation reports

East Midlands
The East Midlands Federation school was held on !4th and 15th October.
A written report was given out.

West Midlands
The West Midlands Federation school covered I.T and social media in the workplace.
The weekend was held in the bigger conference room and this was a much better room.
The food was really nice and there were lots of good group activities.
  
Divisional officers report
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report and Divisional officers report from Gavin Dadley.

Membership 437,207 nationally and 57,191 divisional. 

Academy 1 - 10 officers.
New members - 1,674

Both Academy programmes will soon be at an end.

(1) TUC Regional Council. There were lots of guest speakers at the last meeting.

(2) Retail Trades Conference. A good conference, Good propositions and good activities.

(3) November Divisional Conference - Saturday 25th November and Sunday 26th November to be held at the Stratford Manor Hotel. Paddy Lillis and David Jamerson will be our guest speakers.

(4) Divisional Politics committee meeting went well with some good speakers.


The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.

Divisional Equalities forum 10 nominees required.
We voted for the nominees and these will be updated here once all have been written to and confirmed.

USDAW National Organising Awards 2017
We voted for the nominees and these are listed below as the winners names have been published in the Divisional Conference paperwork.

1) Individual Organising Award - Simon Archer.
2) Individual Recruitment Award - Adrian Clarke.
3) Team Recruitment and Organising Award - Weetabix reps.
4) The Campaigns Award - Chris Bowers.
5) Health and Safety Rep Award - Nick Lazic.
6) Union Learning Rep Award - Fliss Pryce-Page.
7) The Equalities Award - John Meakin.
8) Most Promising New Activist Award - Darren Vickery.
9) Outstanding Achievement Award - Dean Wainwright.

Any Other Business
We then moved on to any other business.

The next USDAW Midlands Divisional Council Meeting will be on Wednesday 29th November 2017. 
  The meeting was then closed
