Today - Wednesday 24th June I attended my second Divisional Council meeting at the USDAW Redditch office.
The meeting started with the first item on the agenda - Election of Divisional Council Chairman, Vice Chairman, East Midlands Federation Observer and West Midlands Federation Observer.
There were two people proposed and seconded for the position of Chairman.
These were Paul White and Ian Bateman.
A vote was taken and Ian Bateman was elected as the Divisional Council Chairman.
There were also two people proposed and seconded for the position of Vice Chairman.
These were Paul White and ( myself ) Jon Mcewan.
A vote was taken and I was elected as the Divisional Council Vice Chairman.
There were two people proposed and seconded for the position of East Midlands Federation Observer.
These were Simon Eggleton and Simon Willmott.
A vote was taken and Simon Eggleton was elected as the East Midlands Federation Observer.
There were two people interested in the position of West Midlands Federation Observer.
These were Jenny Chilton and Kate MacLeod.
A vote was taken and Kate MacLeod Being elected as the West Midlands Federation Observer.
The positions on the Equalities forum and the Political forum will be decided at the next meeting.
We then read the minutes from the previous DC meeting in May. These were accepted.
We then read through the minutes of the recent EC meeting. Andrea Watts read through a few items that were important. Maureen Bowen also gave feedback from the meeting. These were accepted.
We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted.
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted.
We received the report from the Divisional officer and discussed a few items.
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report.
Membership total - 429,256 nationally and 56,582 divisionally.
Stand down - 115 reps since 1/1/2015
Who have signed up 1,186 new members.
Membership week - over the 4 week period 862 new members were signed up.
Academy 2 - 3 organising officers who have so far signed up 232 new members and 29 new reps.
Academy 1 - 6 organising officers were selected but due to personal reasons one has had to leave the academy programme. The 5 organising officers have so far signed up 170 new members and 5 new reps.
There are several events due to take place.
Membership week Monday 28th September to Sunday 4th October.

Morissons get together in August.
Sainsburys campaign.
We had to select one person to be on the National Young Workers Committee 2015/16.
There were two nominees.
These were
Shawney Hind - Tesco Leicester Hamilton.
Russell Jones - Morrisons Bromsgrove.
A vote was taken and Shawney Hind was selected.
We moved on to any other business.
I mentioned that on Monday 15th June I attended the South Derbyshire Labour Party A.G.M and was elected on to the committee as an USDAW representative.
The meeting was then closed.
