I have been a member of the USDAW trade union since 2001, I'm a shop steward, Health and Safety rep, Union Learning Rep, branch chairman and I'm an USDAW Divisional Councillor in the Midlands division - Elected in 2015. On Wednesday 24th June 2015 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th May 2016. On Wednesday 31st May 2017 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th April 2018. I will be using this website to keep you informed of what I will be doing as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors. I will try to update this website with information about meetings attended, courses attended, conferences attended and any other duties I do as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors in the Midlands. I will also try to add photos from events that I attend and I will try to post news that members of USDAW might find useful.

Usdaw Divisional Council Elections 2018

I would just like to say thank you to everyone in my branch who had supported me in seeking re-election onto the Midlands Divisional Council. 

It will be several weeks until the results are known but I’d like to thank all branches who voted for me and supported me during the election. 

It’s been an honour and a privilege to serve you all for the last three years.

USDAW DIVISIONAL COUNCIL MEETING NUMBER 30

Wednesday 31st January 2018 I attended Divisional Council meeting number 30 at the Usdaw Redditch office.

Apologies were received from:
Simon Eggleton - Work.
Maureen Bowen - Personal.
Paul White - Illness. 

Minutes from the previous DC meeting
We then read the minutes from the previous DC meeting. These were accepted. 

Minutes of the recent EC meeting
We read through the EC minutes.

The stage and seating at ADM was discussed due to the exceptional circumstances regarding the scaffolding that will be in place at the winter gardens. 

Minutes from other Divisional Councils
We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted.

Central office circulars and press releases
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted. 


Federation reports

East Midlands
There was no report. 

West Midlands
There was no report. 

Divisional officers report
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report and Divisional officers report from Gareth Davies and Gavin Dadley.

Membership 431,504 nationally and 56,733 divisional. 

2017 was the highest recorded number of new members Nationally for Usdaw since the end of the closed shop - 93,142 new members recruited. 

(1) March Divisional Conference - Saturday 10th March and Sunday 11th March is being held at the Raddison Blu hotel near to East Midlands Airport. 

(2) Divisional award winners - we had two National Award winners for the Midlands Division.

Fliss Pryce-Page - ULR award.

The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.

Academy 2 2018  
5 reps have been offered a place on Academy 2 these are awaiting release to be agreed by employers. 

Academy 1 2018  
It is estimated that upto 25 reps have applied to be in Academy 1 this year. Theses will be invited to the Development centre where a shortlist will be drawn up. I will update this as things progress.

Academy 1 
1,946 new members. 

Acedemy 2
396 new members. 


Both Academy programmes have now ended. 

(1) November Divisional Conference - Saturday 25th November and Sunday 26th November raised £330 which was donated to the Redditch food bank. 

(2) Divisional award winners wished good luck for the Usdaw National organising awards.
