I have been a member of the USDAW trade union since 2001, I'm a shop steward, Health and Safety rep, Union Learning Rep, branch chairman and I'm an USDAW Divisional Councillor in the Midlands division - Elected in 2015. On Wednesday 24th June 2015 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th May 2016. On Wednesday 31st May 2017 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th April 2018. I will be using this website to keep you informed of what I will be doing as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors. I will try to update this website with information about meetings attended, courses attended, conferences attended and any other duties I do as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors in the Midlands. I will also try to add photos from events that I attend and I will try to post news that members of USDAW might find useful.

Divisional Council Meeting Number 22

Wednesday 26th April 2017 I attended Divisional Council meeting number 22 at the USDAW Redditch office. 

Apologies were received from:
Simon Eggleton - Work.
Maureen Bowen - Personal.
Paul White - Illness.

Minutes from the previous DC meeting
We then read the minutes from the previous DC meeting. These were accepted. 

Minutes of the recent EC meeting
We received the EC Minutes from Andrea.




1) The Executive Council have looked through all the Propositions and they discussed if they will be supported or opposed by the EC.
Minutes from other Divisional Councils
We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted.

Central office circulars and press releases
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted. 




Federation reports

East Midlands
A report was read out regarding the East Midlands Federation help on 1st and 2nd April at the Southview Hotel in Skegness. £150 raised in a raffle for MENCAP.
West Midlands
No report
  
Divisional officers report
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report from Gareth Davies.

Membership 430,318 nationally and 56,350 divisional. 
Stand down recruitment  - 4,487 hours - 1,233 new members.
Academy 2 - 3 officers.
New members - 130
New reps - 5
Academy 1 - 11 reps were invited to join the Academy 1 2017 campaign.
10 have been allowed release.

 
We received the Divisional officers report from Gavin Dadley.

(1) ADM 2017 - we went over the stewarding duties.
(2) Sat 1st July - Women Chain makers festival.
The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.

USDAW LGBT Get Together 
We looked through the applications. We then voted and selected the three nominees and two reserves required.
TUC LGBT Conference 
We voted our nominee and our reserve.
USDAW Summer School series one
We read through all the nominations and voted to select our eight nominees.
USDAW Summer School series two
We read through the nominations and voted to select our six nominees.
USDAW Pensions Conference
We read through the applications and voted to select our six nominees and three reserves.
Any Other Business
We then moved on to any other business.

The next USDAW Midlands Divisional Council Meeting will be on Wednesday 31st May 2017.

Divisional Councl Meeting Number 21

1) Kay Baldry from the Kegworth office will be retiring shortly.
2) This years ADM will not be live streamed and no other ADM's.

A report was read from the Federation held at the ST Johns Hotel in Solihull on Saturday 25th March and Sunday 2th March.
 
Divisional officers report
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report from Gareth Davies.

Membership 429,750 nationally and 56,323 divisional. 

Stand down recruitment  - 3,457 hours - 910 new members.
 
Academy 2 - 3 officers.
New members - 51
New reps - 3
 
Academy 1 - Divisional Development centre had 28 reps invited and 24 attended.
11 reps were invited to join the Academy 1 2017 campaign.

 
We received the Divisional officers report from Gavin Dadley.

(1) Divisional Conference Saturday 11th March - Sunday 12th March - There were three speakers on Saturday with lots of questions asked.
Lord Kennedy, Sion Simon and Steven Mitchell.
 
(2) TUC Regional Executive - Kate Macleod elected to the reserved woman's seat.

(3) Sat 1st July - Women Chain makers festival.
The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.

TUC Disabled Workers Conference
There is one place available and one reserve required.

All applications accepted.
