I have been a member of the USDAW trade union since 2001, I'm a shop steward, Health and Safety rep, Union Learning Rep, branch chairman and I'm an USDAW Divisional Councillor in the Midlands division - Elected in 2015. On Wednesday 24th June 2015 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th May 2016. On Wednesday 31st May 2017 I was elected as the Vice Chairman of the USDAW Midlands Divisional Council until 25th April 2018. I will be using this website to keep you informed of what I will be doing as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors. I will try to update this website with information about meetings attended, courses attended, conferences attended and any other duties I do as one of your USDAW Divisional Councillors in the Midlands. I will also try to add photos from events that I attend and I will try to post news that members of USDAW might find useful.

USDAW Midlands Divisional Conference paperwork

The paperwork for the USDAW Midlands Divisional Conference has arrived. 

The conference will be taking place on Saturday 5th March and Sunday 6th March at East Midlands Airport. 

The conference will cover " USDAW's 125th anniversary year " and Politics.

There will also be three guest speakers (Subject to availability) - John Hannett - USDAW General Secretary, Tom Watson MP - Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Alan Fitzpatrick - Rowley Dickinson Solicitors. 

There will be two workshops run by our training officer Warren Scott. 

We will also be holding a presentation for all the nominees of the USDAW Organising Awards.
These will be handed out by John Hannett. 


I will post an update after the conference with a report on how the conference went.

Wednesday 24th February I attended Divisional Council meeting number Nine at the USDAW Redditch office.

We then read the minutes from the previous DC meeting. These were accepted. 

Minutes of the December 2015 and January 2016 EC meeting
We received the EC Minutes from Andrea and Maureen.

Minutes from other Divisional Councils
We took a look at the minutes from other Divisional Councils. These were accepted. 

Central office circulars and press releases
We looked through a selection of circulars from central office and a selection of press releases. These were accepted.

Divisional officers report
We received the Deputy Divisional officers report from Gareth.

Membership total ( presently ) - 437,908 nationally and 57,039 divisional. 

New Members 2016 - 1,318 divisional. 

Academy 2 starts Monday 29th February 2016.

Academy 1 update. Invited candidates will attend a two day Development centre event held on 15th and 16th March. 22 candidates have been invited to attend.

We received the Divisional officers report from Gavin Dadley.

(1) Divisional Conference Saturday 5th March - Sunday 6th March - East Midlands Airport.
We were shown the agenda for the weekend and we were informed of three guests who would be speaking over the weekend.

(2) The first TUC Midlands meeting will take place in Derby on Sat 27th February.

(3) The USDAW 125th anniversary bus will be visiting the Midlands at the Divisional Conference on 5th and 6th March 2016. 

The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.

The next USDAW Midlands Divisional Council meeting will need to look at selecting delegates and reserves for the following conferences -

TUC Disabled workers Conference
TUC LGBT Conference
USDAW Warehouse and Distribution Conference
USDAW Food Manufacturing Conference

Preparation for the February Divisional Council meeting.

I have received the Agenda, Previous Meetings minuets and the latest minuets of the Executive Council meeting.

I have looked through these and all seems good.

Divisional Council Meeting Number Eight

Wednesday 27th January I attended my eighth Divisional Council meeting at the USDAW Redditch office.

Membership total  2015 - 440,603 nationally and 57,051 divisional. 

Membership total  2016 - 438,748 nationally and 56, 885 divisional. 

We received the Divisional officers report from Gavin Dadley.

(1) Divisional Conference Saturday 5th March - Sunday 6th March - East Midlands Airport.
There will be another charity collection held.

(2) Congratulations to all nominees for the USDAW Organising awards. Certificate will be presented or passed onto all Nominees.
The Midlands Division had one National award winner. This was Joshua Halliwell in the Individual recruitment award. 

The Divisional officers report was read and all points noted/endorsed.
